Koh Tachai — Preparing to Reopen After 9 Years!!!

Koh Tachai is a small island located in the northern part of the Mu Ko Similan National Park. It has been praised as one of the most beautiful islands in the Andaman Sea — known for its clear turquoise sea, white sandy beaches, and rich, healthy coral reefs.

The island also offers excellent diving at underwater rock formations near the southern tip, where divers often have the chance to see whale sharks and manta rays — some of the best places in the Thai Andaman Sea to spot these magnificent animals.

Top features of Koh Tachai include:

  • Turquoise blue, crystal-clear sea
  • Clean and peaceful white sandy beaches
  • Vibrant shallow and deep coral reef ecosystems
  • Unique wildlife like rare mantis shrimp and giant crabs found only here.

⚠️ Current Status

Koh Tachai has been closed to tourists indefinitely since 2016 to allow the ecosystem, coral reefs, and natural resources to recover after being heavily impacted by high tourist traffic.

On 19 December 2025, a letter was issued calling a meeting of tourism operators to discuss management, preparations, and readiness plans for welcoming visitors again

In the past, Koh Tachai was considered one of Thailand’s most beautiful islands, with crystal-clear water as radiant as the Similan Islands, a rich variety of marine life, and gorgeous underwater scenery — including the iconic “Kai” crabs and giant reef crabs, making this potential reopening an exciting sign that this legendary marine paradise could return to tourism soon.
